New FCC Policies

• FCC announced a new Order on cell phones and hearing aids on July 10. Details not yet published but announcement at Open Meeting indicated:

• Gives carriers and manufacturers 3 years to have at least two compliant handsets (both HAC and fairly low RF emissions)

• FCC will study again after 3 years to see if goal of accessibility is being met

• After 5 years, 50% of cell phones must have RF compliance (not all of these must be HAC)

• Outreach will be done by the FCC and FDA

• FCC has agreed to let industry phase out analog service over the next four years.
