PSAPs must train their call takers to effectively recognize and process TTY calls.

• Trained in the use of TTY equipment; and

• Supplied with information about communication protocol with individuals with disabilities

  • E.g., American Sign Language uses a syntax that is different from spoken English;

  • TTY abbreviations are frequently used.
