• When a digital cell phone is placed close to a hearing aid for listening, a buzz may occur and make it difficult to hear the speech.

• Whether this happens, and the amount of the buzz, depends on factors such as:

  • The design of the phone – how much electromagnetic energy it emits and where the emissions occur

  • Transmission technology and frequency

  • The design of the hearing aid

  • Whether the user relies on the microphone setting or the telecoil setting in his or her hearing aid or CI
