How will VoIP affect text communication?

• On the Internet, Wireless and in VoIP:

  • IM can become even more widely available in mainstream products (VoIP products)

  • IM replacing traditional conversational text

    • IM not standardized

    • IM and other IP text not accessible to 9-1-1

    • Interoperable IP text is not bundled with VoIP products

    • IM is line by line only – Is this acceptable for relay services and urgent calls?

    • Needed: Open standard conversational text, preferably bundled with IM style text
