• At the present time – these non-TTY methods cannot be used to call 9-1-1

• AND it is unlikely that NON-TTY methods will be supported by most 9-1-1 systems for some time to come

• THERE IS A NEED TO SUPPORT NATIVE TTY SEND RECEIVE CAPABILITY FROM CELL (and IP) PHONES

  • Receive only TTY is very valuable to people who are hard of hearing or who are deaf but can speak - and can be done on any cell phone.

  • Send and Receive TTY can be done on some phones with text generation capability with no hardware changes – and could be done on all with next generation chips (or last generation if planned for).
