BACKGROUND - CONTEXT

• Voice telephone network is moving to IP. 

  • This is very fast at the iPBX/ organizational level. 

  • Like wireless, the technology is rich for combining Information technology functions and voice telecommunications. 

  • Also a potentially rich environment for mixing modes.  brTotal Conversation.
     

  • PSAPs will follow this trend and eventually move to IP. 

    • This is currently seen as inevitable but not immediate br

When this happens -- we need to be sure that VoIP is accessible and reliable -- or people with disabilities, including those who are older, will effectively lose access brto 9-1-1 and other emergency services.  br
