Digital cell phones used to garble TTY.

• Several reasons:

• TTY doesn’t behave like voice – switches between two frequencies very quickly

• Small transmission errors make large error rates in TTY.

• FCC ordered the industry to fix the problem so that deaf people can call 9-1-1 while mobile

• Problem fixed as of 2002. (Some bugs may remain.)
