New FCC Policies
FCC announced a new Order on cell phones and hearing aids on July 10. Details not yet published but announcement at Open Meeting indicated:
Gives carriers and manufacturers 3 years to have at least two compliant handsets (both HAC and fairly low RF emissions)
FCC will study again after 3 years to see if goal of accessibility is being met
After 5 years, 50% of cell phones must have RF compliance (not all of these must be HAC)
Outreach will be done by the FCC and FDA
FCC has agreed to let industry phase out analog service over the next four years.
